Empath Health is seeking a detailed-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, the Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, preparing reports, and supporting overall accounting operations in alignment with GAAP principles. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker, and highly proficient in Microsoft Excel — able to analyze and summarize data efficiently to support organizational decisions. 

What you'll Do

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and record business transactions accurately, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare month-end financial statements, variance analyses, and other reports as assigned.
  • Support budget preparation, forecasting, and monthly variance explanations.
  • Assist with audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting (including Florida State Sales Tax, Unclaimed Property, and Tangible Property Tax).
  • Collaborate with the finance team to review accounts payable, capital equipment entries, and other accounting tasks.
  • Identify discrepancies, evaluate data for accuracy, and recommend process improvements to prevent recurrence.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with Accounting concentration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in not-for-profit organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; ability to analyze, summarize, pivot, and reference data efficiently.
  • Experience with accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and critical thinking.
  • Self-starter with ability to manage tasks independently while communicating progress, goals, and barriers effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to coordinate multiple projects under deadlines.
