Assistant Director of Security – Job Duties
  • Assist the Director of Security with the overall management and operation of the Security Department.
  • Supervise Security Supervisors, Security Officers, and other security personnel.
  • Ensure all security officers are properly trained and understand their post orders, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and post checks to ensure officers are performing their duties properly.
  • Monitor officer performance, attendance, appearance, professionalism, and compliance with company and property policies.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining officer schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all posts.
  • Review daily activity reports, incident reports, patrol reports, and other security documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure all incidents are properly investigated, documented, escalated, and followed through to completion.
  • Maintain communication with property management, residents, tenants, guests, vendors, law enforcement, and emergency services when necessary.
  • Respond to emergencies, serious incidents, complaints, and security-related issues.
  • Assist with investigations involving theft, vandalism, trespassing, disturbances, property damage, parking violations, and other incidents.
  • Ensure security personnel properly enforce property rules, regulations, parking policies, and access-control procedures.
  • Monitor and manage access control systems, CCTV surveillance, visitor management systems, patrol tracking systems, and other security technology.
  • Conduct routine audits of security operations, including patrol tours, incident reports, violation logs, visitor logs, and access control records.
  • Identify security risks and make recommendations for improving safety, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and updating post orders, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), emergency procedures, and security policies.
  • Coordinate security response during emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, evacuations, severe weather, and other critical incidents.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and disciplinary actions involving security personnel.
  • Conduct regular meetings, briefings, and training sessions with security staff.
  • Ensure officers maintain proper uniforms, equipment, radios, keys, access cards, and other assigned property.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, property managers, residents, tenants, vendors, and local law enforcement.
  • Assist the Director of Security with client meetings, security assessments, operational reviews, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitor staffing levels and assist with finding coverage for call-outs, vacancies, and unexpected staffing shortages.
  • Ensure all required licenses, certifications, training, and documentation are current for security personnel.
  • Review complaints involving security personnel and ensure appropriate corrective action and follow-up are completed.
  • Prepare reports and updates for the Director of Security and property management.
  • Assist with the implementation of new security programs, technology, procedures, and operational improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Security or senior management.
Short Job Description
An Assistant Director of Security supports the Director of Security in managing the daily operations of the Security Department. The position is responsible for supervising personnel, maintaining security standards, conducting inspections and audits, managing incidents, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, assisting with training and scheduling, and maintaining strong communication with property management and clients. The Assistant Director serves as a key leader in ensuring the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the property.

Experience

  • Typically, 5–10 years of progressive security experience.
  • 2–5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience in:
    • Physical security operations
    • Emergency response and crisis management
    • Incident investigations
    • Access control systems
    • Security technology (CCTV, alarms, visitor management)
    • Risk assessments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.
  • Experience working in corporate security, private security firms, or government agencies.
  • Military or law enforcement background
  • Experience managing large teams
  • Experience with enterprise security systems
  • Project management experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience preparing budgets and strategic plans
