General Description of Duties

NOTE TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS:  INTERNAL CANDIDATES IN THE SAME CLASSIFICATION AND/OR PAYGRADE AS THE POSITION POSTED WILL NOT RECEIVE A PAY ADJUSTMENT IF SELECTED.

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to provide administrative and clerical support involving the receiving, storing, and issuing of parts, supplies, tools, and equipment. Position is responsible for maintaining the continuous supply of quality parts and equipment. Employee ensures the accurate maintenance of inventory records and efficient storage of supplies. This position may assume responsibility in the absence of the Parts Manager.

  • Receives, stocks and issues parts, materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Salvages parts of used items and equipment and re-issues salvaged items.
  • Supplies parts for Fleet and Small Engines operator/mechanics.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of parts supply room.
  • Analyzes shop and fixed inventory restocking levels and advises of status.
  • Operates various office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Assists with the review of vendor contracts on a regular basis to identify opportunities for savings and/or improvements.
  • Assists with the maintenance of all inventory records of parts and materials of the Fleet Department; documents receipt and disposition of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintains vendor relationships for the continuous supply of quality products while practicing all purchasing activities within all applicable laws and guidelines of the County.
  • Assists with the review, preparation and maintenance of various records, reports and files for the issuance of parts and supplies.
  • Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.
 
Experience: Six (6) months of automotive/equipment parts or supply clerk/purchasing/inventory or other related experience.
 
Miscellaneous:  Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. 
P1 and/or P2 ASE Certification required within two (2) years of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted standard purchasing principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work.
  • Skill in utilizing vendor catalogs, commercial registers, directories, office files and other recourses for the procurement of goods.
  • Knowledge of a variety of automotive replacement parts, materials, and supplies for the repair and maintenance of automotive and related vehicular equipment.
  • Skill in performing routine mathematical computations and tabulations accurately and efficiently as they relate to purchasing.
  • Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
  • Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departmental personnel, management, and vendors.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (50 – 100 pounds).
  • Ability to work in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass and various chemicals.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physical Demand Class: Heavy
  • 100 pounds maximum lifting.
  • Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
  • Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of medium work.
