Description

This position maintains cage wash area, chemical inventory, and clean caging for use.  Provides routine preventative maintenance of cage wash and associated equipment.  



Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of this position include: 

45% - Performs tasks and activities associated with cage wash operations in accordance with established standards of procedure (SOPs). Maintains cage wash and associated area in a clean, organized condition; cleans and sanitizes dirty caging and other animal-related equipment; maintains adequate clean cage Inventories; maintains Inventories of chemical used in cage wash operations.

15% - Assists with facility housekeeping tasks. Assists with minor repairs and facility upkeep.  Receives deliveries and supplies. Maintains loading dock areas and entry areas in a clean and orderly condition. Removes trash.

12% - Assists with following preventative maintenance schedule In performing routine servicing and minor repair of cage wash equipment Troubleshoots equipment breakdowns and communicates with Facility Manager and vendors regarding findings. Maintains logs and records relating to equipment problems or failures, the corrective action taken, and the resolution. Assists with monitoring quality assurance of equipment and cage washing
processes.

10% - Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to caging and other animal-related equipment. Maintains and/or replaces casters, assembles shelf units as required. Maintains inventory of surplus caging in good working condition.

8% -  Assists with care and husbandry needs of numerous laboratory animal species following federal laws and principles, professional standards, and standard operating procedures of the division. Assists technical staff with movement of caging, animals, and equipment between multiple site locations.

5% -  Operates autoclaves and assists technical staff with preparation of caging for sterilization. Assists with monitoring quality assurance of equipment. Follows preventative maintenance schedule in performing routine servicing.

5% - Performs other duties as required. Attends meetings, seminars, workshops, training sessions as related to certification, continuing education, and professional development.



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a ninth grade education and six months of appropriate work experience. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.
