SALARY: The salary range for this position is $107,014.85 to $165,655.03. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

The AI Manager will serve as a strategic, high-impact leader responsible for defining, managing, and executing the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and solutions across the New Jersey Courts system. The AI manager will translate organizational priorities into an intelligent-automation and AI roadmap, lead cross-functional teams through complex change initiatives, and ensure that AI deployments deliver measurable benefits for NJ Courts.
REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 3 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.
Key Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in technology leadership (e.g., as a manager or lead of engineering/data/AI teams) in an enterprise environment.
Proven track record managing complex technology initiatives, including large-scale projects with cross-functional teams.
Familiarity in AI/ML technologies: e.g., machine learning or deep-learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn), NLP (natural language processing), predictive analytics, generative AI tools, model deployment and monitoring.
Strong project management capabilities: ability to build detailed project plans, manage budgets, risks, resource allocation, schedules and deliverables to successful completion. Familiarity with formal project management methodologies (e.g., Agile/Scrum) is strongly preferred.
Expert change-management skills: ability to lead organizational transformation, manage stakeholder expectations (especially senior leadership and non-technical staff), drive adoption of new technologies, plan training/communications, and monitor outcomes.
Excellent leadership, team building, mentoring and communication skills; able to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences including judges, legal professionals and court administrators.
Strong data literacy and experience working with large and complex data sets including structured and unstructured data; familiarity with data governance, data quality, model governance, bias mitigation, and ethics in AI.
Strategic thinking and ability to align technology initiatives with organizational mission and policy objectives (in this case, judicial operations, access to justice, and court efficiency).
