Job Description:
The Academic Advisor serves as the primary point of contact for students-in-training at the Aviation Academy. This role supports student academic progress, monitors training performance, coordinates interventions for students who are off track, and acts as a liaison between students and the Flight Training Team. The Academic Advisor plays a critical role in student success, retention, and training progression throughout the student lifecycle.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all students-in-training.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings to discuss academic progress, training experiences, and concerns.
- Provide counseling and support in collaboration with the Flight Training Team.
- Maintain a regular cadence of student check-ins.
- Track and monitor student progress through assigned training programs.
- Review Unsatisfactory (UnSat) reports and schedule review meetings as needed.
- Ensure students progress through programs in a timely manner.
- Document academic and performance concerns in the Flight Scheduling Platform (FSP).
- Act as the first point of contact for instructor change requests.
- Coordinate withdrawal and training termination meetings as required.
- Assist students with schedule accommodations and special circumstances.
- Monitor progress toward available scholarships and program requirements.
- Investigate financial concerns in coordination with the Flight Training Manager when needed.
- Assist with new cadet welcome and academy acclimation.
- Monitor the student support email inbox and respond to general inquiries.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support academy operations.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
- Experience in a structured training, education, or aviation environment.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and Teams.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive academic and performance-related matters with discretion
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, capable of managing multiple student training profiles simultaneously.
- Experience using Flight Schedule Pro or other flight operating software programs.
- Proactive with thinking through solutions to situations before they become problems.
- Ability to be flexible, as the role evolves based on department and Academy needs.
- Takes ownership of handling issues as they arise and feels empowered to problem-solve them by seeking feedback from the appropriate parties as needed.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Previous experience or strong knowledge of fleet utilization and scheduling within FAR Part 121, 135, or 141 operations.
